Author’s Statement: Emily Norfolk

The first song I learned on guitar was “The Sweater Song,” by Weezer. The guitar was this intricate puzzle that was frustrating and at the same time rewarding. I hated that I wasn't as good as my music teacher, and I definitely wanted to quit when a chord got a little too complicated or sounded iffy, but I never did. My weekly ritual of playing guitar with my music teacher became a beautiful escape from my hectic school life and chaotic household. I found
