Results: Because of limited volunteer participation, a result of this project’s relatively fast timetable, only one of the two tests can be performed. Since only 5 individuals were observed, we ran the difference of means test, but did not run the ANOVA, as 5 individuals is not a large enough sampling of the general population. Additionally, due to variations in hair thickness, the device experienced reduced contact quality at times, and was unable to record all 6 emotional factors for each trial. Thus, to decrease potential error, only the most consistent emotional factor (present in most subject results), focus, was used in the analysis. These experimental limitations will be discussed further in the Conclusion section. Descriptive Statistics The number of subjects, recordings, focus recordings, mean, and standard deviation of each book both including and excluding outliers are presented in Figure 1. Five subjects were observed, and the number of recordings were dependent on the contact quality of each trial. Each subject had one successful focus reading except for one, which explains the lower recording number for The Book Thief . Subject 2’s metrics were consistently outliers for all texts except Rodger the Rabbit , which is why the outlier data is adjusted. Notice that the standard deviation is lower in the revised data set. Collected data sets and the outlier analysis are presented Figures 2 and 3.
