stop thinking about this idea. Everywhere I went, I saw people staring at their phones, computers, and iPads. I couldn’t help but notice our obvious reliance on technology. This inspired me to write a science fiction short story. I wanted to continue telling the story of newly anthropomorphic electronics. “September 5th, 2149” is written in the perspective of a historian after the technological apocalypse (‘The Surge’) has occurred. He reflects and tells the stories of the main figures of the apocalypse. This story differs from my other writing as it employs a somber tone throughout. Though I still feel the piece represents my writing style, I chose to remove humor from the piece to highlight the underlying message. The personified electronics in the story, represent how technology is taking a hold of our lives, literally controlling the world. My story doesn’t display a realistic possibility of what could occur in our future, but acts as a metaphor to show the potential damage. I ask the reader not to be scared by the future I write about, but rather take time to think about the power technology has in our world.
