Our Wildwood, Summer 2021, Volume 46
My 29-year tenure on the Wildwood Board has been extremely rewarding. I serve because I believe in the educational and social experience Wildwood offers and because of the dedication of the Wildwood
It started out simply enough. My daughter Amy, and then my son Zach, attended Wildwood. Both had wonderful experiences. But that wouldn’t have been enough to keep me around for decades. Two things
community and staff to the continuing excellence of the school. I am so grateful for the profound influence that Wildwood has had on my children. Years after graduating Wildwood, they still are appreciative of the effect that Wildwood has had on them. John Friedman, alumni parent of Sam (elementary) ‘96, Julie ‘05, and Charlotte ‘07, and Board of Trustees
kept me here: Wildwood has always been my hometown in this big city, and it’s populated by smart, committed, kind, accomplished, yet unpretentious people. No small feat in a place like Los Angeles. And the dream—to help in every way to keep Wildwood at the cutting edge of an education that truly empowers kids and teaches them to be passionate learners and good people. That’s why I’m still here. Lyle Poncher, alumni parent of Amy ‘97 (elementary) and Zach ‘11, Board of Trustees, and Board Chair 1994- 2000
As the father of three alumni lifers and as a Trustee who has served on the Wildwood Board for longer than any of my kids was at the school, I am unquestionably a loyal fan. This is a progressive school that continues to
I’ve always had faith in Wildwood’s core values, its focus on depth over breadth, process over product, and the education of each student as an individual. As a parent, I saw how Wildwood encouraged my kids to
progress. Wildwood prepared my now-adult children to be better people. They approach their careers and their lives with open minds. I could not be prouder of them or of Wildwood. Lee Rosenbaum, alumni parent of Chiara ’11, Emmett ’13, and Anthea ‘16, Board of Trustees, and Board Chair 2007- 2010
find their own voices and use them in service of their education, their community and the common good. Now, having been part of the Wildwood community and a trustee for over a decade, my faith has become conviction. I’ve seen the evidence not just in my own kids but in the many graduates I’ve met who are intellectually and culturally curious, deeply committed to their own education, and eager to make a difference in the world they’ve inherited. Nina Jacobson, alumni parent of Josie ’19, Noah, and William, and Board of Trustees
Ten years into our Wildwood experience, I’m happy to report that both the students and the parents in our family continue to be amazed by the community. I’m regularly awed by the thoughtful
process and exceptional results of every group at the school: teachers, administrators, coaches, and of course students. Observing our own children and the many alumni I’ve been lucky enough to interact with makes me proud to be part of this incredible school. Andrew Solmssen, parent of Ridley ‘24 and Jack ‘24, Board of Trustees, and Board Chair 2020-present
