Our Wildwood, Volume 53

All In, All Season

Ike Moore ‘25

THROUGHOUT MY TIME AT WILDWOOD, I’VE BEEN a leader on Wildwood’s basketball, beach volleyball, and indoor volleyball teams. Basketball has been part of my life here since 6th grade, and for the longest time, I saw myself only as a basketball player. That changed during my junior year when I noticed a few of my basketball teammates joining the indoor volleyball team. I figured I

had to see what the hype was about—and I’m forever grateful that I did. I didn’t just find a new sport I love—I found a new family. Athletics at Wildwood have helped me grow not only as an athlete, but also as a teammate, friend, and

person. I’ve learned how to be confident while staying humble. For me, that meant letting go of trash-talking opponents (even when I really wanted to) and instead focusing on celebrating and supporting my team. I learned how to lead on and off the court. When I was sidelined with an injury for most of the basketball season, I still showed up to practices and games, doing whatever I could to help the team improve. That experience taught me that leadership isn’t just about what happens during game time—it’s about commitment, presence, and doing what’s best for the group. One of the biggest takeaways from time as a Wildwood athlete was learning how to face adversity and become resilient. I realized early that nothing would be handed to me. I had to work for it—on the court and in life. The payoff was real: a near-perfect 9th grade basketball season and, for the first time in school history, a boys volleyball CIF championship. Wildwood on 3, family on 6!
