Our Wildwood, Volume 54
I began my tenure as Wildwood’s board chair at the same time that Landis started as Head of School. We quickly had to establish a working relationship that would set the tone for future board chairs: in our weekly meetings, we built a bond that let each of us know we had the other’s back. Over 19 years and six board chairs, Landis has known unwavering support from his board and especially from his board chair. When the head of school and the school’s board are in sync, amazing things can happen. Wildwood is certainly proof of that.”
To talk about Landis and his legacy, we must insert Landis’ laughter. It’s loud! Robust. Contagious. Working at schools is hard, complicated, and multilayered. Sometimes, it is in fact intense, even wild what comes at you. Landis’s laughter always communicates that it’s going to be okay.” MELINDA TSAPATSARIS (P. ‘28, ‘31, ‘33) FACULTY AND ASSOCIATE HEAD OF SCHOOL (2001-2017) AND RASHEDA CARROLL (P. ’31, ‘38) DIRECTOR OF EQUITY AND INCLUSION (2001-2019)
LEE ROSENBAUM (P. ‘11, ‘13, ‘16) BOARD CHAIR (2007-2010) BOARD OF TRUSTEES (2006-PRESENT)
Working alongside Landis from the beginning remains the single most rewarding experience of my professional life. The nature of our work together and his arrival at the right (and critical) time in the life of Wildwood, required a deep and trusting relationship— one I think we were both well equipped for.”
I think Landis is the reason we have such a healthy and strong board of trustees. He just knows how to be a good partner in this work. Because he is such an effective leader—mission-driven, ethical, hardworking—the Board trusts him implicitly to make good and responsible and smart choices. His values are Wildwood’s values.”
