Elementary Alumni Tahirah Farris ’94 – Tahirah recently started a new position as a regional planner with the Los Angeles County

Department of Regional Planning. Tahirah made this transition after 13 years in the nonprofit sector, and she can now directly apply her master’s degree in urban planning to her work and passion for community building. Tahirah works on residential and commercial projects throughout LA County with the hope of encouraging socially and environmentally responsible growth and development. For the past five years, she has participated in the USC Price School’s Professional Mentor Program, mentoring graduate students in urban planning, public policy, and public administration programs. She recently co-wrote an article on barriers to healthy eating among adolescents, which was published in the American Journal of Health Behaviors.

Maddy Gold ’15 – Maddy, a theater major at Whitman College, is studying abroad in Granada, Spain. She is a recipient of the prestigious Gilman International Scholarship. During her time abroad, Maddy hopes to develop a greater understanding of others and different perspectives—skills she plans to use beyond college to help advocate for others.

Bonnie Bloomgarden ’93 – Bonnie plays in a rock-and-roll band called Death Valley Girls. She practices . the power of opt-mysticism and . loves dogs. Jonathan Lewis ’93 – Jonathan lives in Washington, D.C., and works for D.C. public schools on their educational technology team. He also writes articles about American history, art, and education. Jonathan recently published a book of poems with Lines+Stars.

Caleb Zakarin ’16 – Caleb is majoring in the College of Social Studies at Wesleyan University. The College of Social Studies is an interdisciplinary program with a focus on modern historical, political, and economic thought. His area of academic emphasis centers around 19th century German social and economic theory, specifically Friedrich Nietzsche’s genealogical works and Karl Marx’s Das Kapital. Outside of class, he is working on a film for a senior thesis about an aging milkman haunted by his roller disco past. Dylan Vecchione ’17 – Dylan was featured on a local Seattle TV news broadcast in August. He helped operate a solar telescope at an eclipse viewing party thrown by Intellectual Ventures Lab.
